INTRODUCTION

Believe it or not, I am an optimist.  I can’t count the number of times I have seen God do things that everyone (including my self) thought would never happen.  In college I was the least likely to succeed.  While other, more promising students were on the dean’s list I was on the dean’s hit list.  I went into the ministry against my family’s wishes.  I took a church that was on its last leg and after being there for a few weeks members of the congregation said I wouldn’t last 6 months.  I have been there for 32 years.  I was told by a junior high school teacher that I would never make it in college. He is now selling insurance and I am the founding chancellor of a college with more than 40 churches pastored by our graduates.  I thought I would never leave Raleigh County, West Virginia.  I have been to 35 countries and territories.

Yes, I am an optimist.  Not because I have some great ability or talent.  I am an optimist because I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next.

I have always gotten great encouragement from the Psalms.  Every time I read through them I think, “Maybe I should write this down.  Surely I’m not the only one God’s trying to teach this stuff.”  Well, here goes…
