OHMMMMM!

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psalms 1:2

The word “meditate” is very interesting.  The new age version (which is not new by the way) defines it as emptying your mind of thought.  I say that is impossible.  When you try to empty your mind all kinds of thoughts rush in to fill the void.  The literal meaning of this word is to mutter or mumble.  The implied definition is to ponder.  Therefore, to meditate is to fill your mind, not empty it.

God made our minds so He, more than anyone, knows how they work.  He has given the recipe for reaching the level of happiness intended for God’s children.  Meditate in His law day and night.  Fill your mind with His Word.  Say it, mutter it, mumble it.  Make it a part of your vocabulary.  Use its instruction to mold your life, direct your path, and influence the way you think.

The day and night instruction teaches the lesson of consistency.  God’s children make the mistake of compartmentalizing their Christianity.  They allow it to change certain aspects of their lives. God’s standards are fine for your church life but what about your work environment; or your relationship with the opposite sex.  Meditating on the Word of God consistently (day and night) will change every avenue of your existence.
