FRIDAY- July
19th, 2002 - Now we are packed and ready to head for
Niarobi and on to America. This has been a busy and fast 10 days. After
breakfast, our first stop is the Lake Nakuru Animal Reserve. While Pastor
David is making the arrangements for getting us into the park, the monkeys
come out to greet us. We are told to keep our windows and doors shut!
We start our tour of the reserve and our first stop is at the lake where there is the greatest amount of flamingoes gathered in the world. There are hundreds of thousands of the pink birds! A beautiful sight! Tim is pretending to be Steve Irwin with his rendition of the crocodile hunters description of the animal life. We really think he has lost his mind to jungle fever. Even though we never saw the jungle! We saw many zebra’s, monkeys, waterbucks and a strange brand of what looked like deer to me. It was a rather dusty and dry ride. The tour lasted about 3 hours. After leaving the park, we stopped at a local hotel and had lunch. Great chicken and greens! The best I ever ate! I would love to have that recipe! Now our journey or safari is about over and we are headed to the airport in Nairobi. Still we are a couple of hours away and we still had not gotten the shopping finished, so we stopped on the way at a road side souvenir shop! Margaret gave the shop keepers a run for their money. So, the rest of us got a special gift from them. They said Margaret got a better deal than we did! You go, Margaret! Shopping done! Where are we going to put it all? It is now time to go to the airport. No more stop and shop road side vendors to check out. The drive to the airport is rather scary! Apparently there is a riot going on in Nairobi and the traffic is bumper to bumper literally and what was really a two lane highway is now 3 to 6 lanes. These guys are driving all over the place. I did not see one female driver either! There is really no method to this madness. Everyone is hooting! That is honking in English. And believe it or not no one is mad!! We are going only a few inches at a time. Good thing we have 2 hours before we take off! Finally, we are moving a little faster. We eventually get to the airport and re-pack our luggage with all our African goodies. We have already been up since 7:00 AM and we are getting tired and the thought of a 26 hour trip home is causing us to be a little wearier! We are on our way home richer and blessed more than before. What an experience! A trip that will always be remembered as the best mission trip we ever took. We are now looking forward to hearing about the results of the Training Centers that were planted in Africa. We now have dear friends ten thousand miles away who are praying for us and we are praying for them. We know their needs and their desires. We want desperately to help in any way we can. Please pray for Huruma Baptist Church and Pastor David. Pray for Sironko Baptist Mission and Pastor Fred. Pray for the mountain top church and those churches about to be started. Pray for the training of those men. Pray for the building of the orphanage. Thank you for your prayers during our journey. I hope that through this journal you were able to experience part of this wonderful journey we began through the Elisha Project. God is not finished with us yet! Until we meet Him in the air, we have a work to accomplish! Asante sana! Thank you much!
