July 14

SUNDAY - July 14th, 2002 - Arrived at Huruma around 10 AM for the morning service.  Naomi was whisked away to teach Sunday School to the children. They were so quiet and attentive. She could not stop with just one story, she had to teach several.  They loved it.  Good job Naomi!! You were a hit!

This church begins their services on Sunday morning at 6:00 AM for those people who work on Sunday. And because people have to walk, they have church most of the day and go home early in the afternoon, so as to get home before dark.

During the service the people of the church presented us with gifts. Just when we thought things could not get any better! We were given walking sticks, giraffes, belts, spoons, a Swahili Bible, a Swahili song book and each of us girls were presented with an Africa outfit.  Again, how honored we feel.

Chuck preached in the morning service from 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5. Four people came to know the Lord as their Savior and several rededicated their lives to the Lord. It was a great service.

After the morning service we were taken to a room where we were able to enjoy a wonderful meal prepared by some of the ladies of the church. We had Chapati, kale, chicken stew, rice, corn meal (ugali), potatoes, cabbage, pineapple, bananas and of course, cokes! Yum! Yum!

Between the services that day we were able to visit Pastor David and Luci’s home.

We started back for the church for the 3:00 service and Doug preached. You go Doug! Good job!

The service lasted until around 6:00 PM. (11:00 AM our time). Pastor Carver called New Hope and the church at Huruma sang 10,000 miles away over our cell phone. I love modern technology!! What a blessing!!

Since it was the last day of the meetings and no service lasted less than 7 hours, many wanted their picture take with us. Nearly knocked Margaret down! Today the service lasted 8 hours.

Got back to the hotel and had supper. New dish tonight, ox tail soup! It was pretty good. Oh, and by the way, Doug had no problem with the food! Had a great time of fellowship with the team. It was a great day and God blessed us beyond measure. Our words could never adequately express what we have experienced!

By the way, haven’t seen the president of Uganda (President Mouseveni) yet. Could have slept in the presidential suite another night if you asked me. However, no one asked me!
