July 16

Proverbs 3:6- "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

TUESDAY - July 16th, 2002 - This day started early! Got up at 5:15 AM. Who knew there were two of those in one day! Our bags are packed and we are to get a good breakfast before we leave for Uganda and meeting Pastor Fred Mugyoya. We had another long van ride to the Ugandan border. Because of a new law, we had to pay approximately $75.00 for insurance to ride on the highway. We sat at the border for about 2 hours while the papers were being processed. Pastor Fred met us and took care of the details. While we were baking in the hot van, several young children would come up and try to sell bananas , eggs, watches, tapes or CD’s or we could even exchange America money for Ugandan or Kenyan money. I think some of those "hawkers" weren’t really on the up and up if you asked me! It was hot and dusty, so, we were really in no mood to shop either. That’s saying al lot. We had not had a chance to do any shopping since we left Amsterdam! What happened to that black belt?

Margaret was witnessing to one of the children. His name was Emeril. He knew more scripture than all of us put together and he said he was a Christian. His father was a preacher. This kid was good!

Finally, we were cleared to leave and we passed through "No Man’s Land" and into Uganda. We traveled on to the hotel (Sunrise Inn). We were given our rooms. The hotel was very clean and beautifully kept. We enjoyed a very nice lunch with Pastor David and Luci and Louice and Pastor Fred. The food was wonderful and the scenery was fabulous.

Our next stop was to Pastor Fred’s church. As we turned onto the dirt road leading to the to the Sironko Baptist Mission many people were there to greet us. We were welcomed by children as well as adults. We were escorted to the church where we had a short meeting with a welcome from the Pastor and music. Because of the lateness of the evening and so many people had to walk home the meeting ended. We left and went back to the hotel. We had a nice fruit snack and rested from the weary 6 ½ hour van ride. What a day! These people are so grateful and thankful for what we have brought them. How exciting for us! Time to call it another wonderful day.
